FINLAND INDEPENDENCE DAY
On 6th December Finland celebrates its Independence and the day is one of the most noticeable national holidays in Finland. Finland gained its independence during the First World War, in 1917 when the Finnish Senate gave its declaration of Independence.
The Finnish Independence Day festivities tend to be somewhat serious compared to the cheerful carnival spirit found in some other countries. Patriotism plays still a significant part, even though its role is slowly diminishing.
